Calculate Your Tithe

“Give, and it will be given to you!” – Luke 6:38

What is Tithing?

Tithing is the practice of giving 10% of your earnings back to God or your place of worship. It is a biblical principle rooted in gratitude and trust in divine provision. In Christianity, tithing is seen as a way to honor God with the first fruits of your labor, as mentioned in Malachi 3:10 and other scriptures.

Why Do We Tithe?

We tithe to express faith and obedience to God’s word. It acknowledges that everything we have comes from God and helps support the church’s mission, community outreach, and spiritual growth. Tithing fosters generosity, disciplines our finances, and invites blessings, as promised in the Bible. It’s not just about money—it’s about prioritizing spiritual values over material ones.

How to Budget Earnings and Still Tithe

Budgeting while tithing starts with prioritizing your tithe as the first 10% of your income. Follow the 50/30/20 rule: 50% on needs (housing, food), 30% on wants (entertainment), and 20% on savings/debt. Treat tithing as a ‘need’ by allocating it first. Track expenses with apps like Mint or EveryDollar. Reduce non-essentials if needed, and remember tithing builds financial discipline. For example, if you earn $4,000 monthly, tithe $400, then budget the remaining $3,600 accordingly.

Bible Verses on Tithing

Malachi 3:10 (NIV): “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
Genesis 14:20 (NIV): And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand. Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Leviticus 27:30 (NIV): A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.
Deuteronomy 14:22 (NIV): Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.
2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV): Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Proverbs 3:9 (NIV): Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.
Matthew 23:23 (NIV): Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
Hebrews 7:8 (NIV): In the one case, the tenth is collected by people who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living.
